Lisson Gallery in New York will be hosting an exhibition on the works by Roy Colmer that will be on view from January 13, 2017 through February 18, 2017.The exhibition is a representation of ‘The Estate of Roy Colmer’, marking the gallery’s first such attempt showcasing the works of the British artist known for his conceptual photographs, film projects and color-intensive paintings. The exhibition will feature fifteen of the artist’s early spray-gun paintings, most of which have never been exhibited, and a selection of late photo collages. Along with these, a selection of photographic works from the 1980s will also be included. Arranged in a grid, these artworks create a striking contrasts between order and disorder, and focus and distortion, similar to the tension between the field and centralized figure in the artist’s early spray paintings. Placed together, the early paintings and late photo collages articulate Colmer’s lifelong experiment with colour, form and technique.
