An exhibition of 18th century masterpieces by the chaser and gilder Pierre Gouthière is open at The Frick Collection in New York through February 19, 2017.The show marks the first comprehensive retrospective of the French artisan’s work since 1986 and coincides with the publishing of an English-language monograph that includes essays about Gouthière’s life and vocation, a review of his style in the context of the development of Neoclassicism and an examination of his relationships with the great architects and sculptors of the era.
