Blain|Southern in London is hosting an exhibition titled 'Natural Light, Blue Light Room' by Bruce Nauman that will be on view through November 12, 2016.The exhibition brings forward a significant architectural installation by Bruce Nauman on view for the first time since 1971. While in many ways being an example of the minimalistic aesthetics of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the installation also reveals certain ideas that concerned Nauman at that time. He devised the installation going against the convention of presenting light, temperature and space in a sculpture or image, and instead used these phenomena as the actual raw material of his work. The exhibition offers an experience of physical response to the empty space and unfamiliar light of the gallery, which with time, discovers two different light sources- the natural daylight and the blue fluorescent lights. This initial physical stimulus becomes more confusing as the atmosphere in the room changes and resets itself with the shifting light outside, while the blue light remains constant, becoming surprisingly tangible, thus acting like an image or symbol, inviting the visitors to interpret their own reaction to the disorienting atmosphere of the room.The exhibition is on view at Blain|Southern, 4 Hanover Square, London W1S 1BP, United Kingdom.
