Peters Projects will host a solo exhibition of ceramics, bronzes, steel and drawings by Christine Nofchissey McHorse from August 12 through November 5, 2016, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.Navajo artist McHorse is one of the most eminent names in the world of contemporary Native American pottery. Working with traditional materials and techniques, McHorse’s vessel-based art fuses pottery and sculpture. The exhibition showcases sophisticated, sultry curves, black satiny surfaces and modern forms on her ‘Dark Light’ series. The works on display exhibit an amalgamation of Puebloan, Navajo and contemporary influences. Through the unadulterated beauty of micaceous clay and with Puebloan construction techniques, McHorse turns her sketches into voluminous shapes. Discarding the rudimentary forms of Native American identity of craft, she returns to primordial shapes. Experimenting with shape, mass, volume and line, she creates organic vessels that recognizes the spiritual power of water, air and earth.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition
