Jessica Silverman Gallery will host “1960s Portal Paintings” by Suzanne Blank Redstone from September 9 through October 29, 2016, in San Francisco. The exhibition showcases the early works of Suzanne Blank Redstone. The portal works, which were made between 1966 and 1969, are the foundation of Redstone’s artistic practices. In 1966, in order to bring more discipline to her works, Redstone started painting only with 90 and 45-degree angles in gray, white and primary color acrylics. The first of these paintings were hard-edged, but gradually, the lines started becoming softer and more painterly. All these works were dynamic with three-dimensional movements, in parts because they contained portico or a threshold, suggestive of a spiritual dimension. Redstone’s artistic venture combines a high modernist exploration of abstraction with an engagement in historic experiments of Renaissance perspective.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition
