The Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco has announced three shortlisted artworks by three female artists for the 2016 PIAC – Prix International d’Art Contemporain (International Contemporary Art Prize). The shortlisted works are “Subconscious Society, a Feature” (2014) by Rosa Barba, nominated by Chiara Parisi; “Campo del Cielo, Field of the Sky” (2014) by Katie Paterson, nominated by Marc-Olivier Wahler; and “pssst Leopard, 2A7+” (2013) by Natascha Sadr Haghighian nominated by Nina Tabassomi.The PIAC – Prix International d’Art Contemporain (International Contemporary Art Prize) is awarded every three years for a recent work by an artist at the forefront of their practice. The winner is selected from proposals made by leading art world professionals. The winner receives a sum of €40,000, including €20,000 to fund the production of a new work, which for the 2016 prize will be premiered in Brazil, alongside the winning artwork, during the 2016 São Paulo Biennial.PIAC Artistic Director, Lorenzo Fusi, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank all the international nominators who helped and supported us during the selection process by proposing truly exceptional work. It has been a pleasure to work with our Jury Members, who selected for the first time in the history of the Prize an all-women-artists shortlist. It in itself might be said an achievement as it clearly demonstrates that the work of outstanding women is today finally recognised and given centre stage in the global cultural and creative arena.
