Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles is hosting the exhibition “A Movie” by Bruce Connor that will be on view through January 28, 2017.Comprised of discarded 16mm films purchased at flea markets or scavenged from camera shops, “A Movie” has been described by many as the first contemporary ‘found footage film’. The film is composed by a virtual symphony of disasters, car crashes, explosions, war, famine, as well as serene moments of grace like a tightrope act, a plane floating through clouds, light reflected on water- which artist Bruce Connor crafted with absolute precision that define his entire oeuvre in diverse media. Although seemingly random in its sequence of imagery, the film abstractly yet meticulously moves the viewer through a wide range of human experience and emotion, reflecting Connor’s lifelong celebration of moving images alongside his other artistic practices of collage, assemblage, drawing and photography. Reconceiving mid-century notions of cinema itself, the exhibition explores the very nature of cinema and montage in the Modern Era.The exhibition is on view at Kohn Gallery, 1227 Highland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038, USA.
