Feuer/Mesler presents an exhibition of new paintings by Loie Hollowell in “Mother Tongue”, through December 18, 2016. In this series of work, Hollowell creates a duality between figure and landscape using a graphic abstract painting language which are complexly rendered with varying textures and physical depth. In some areas, Hollowell applies paint with a sponge which is contrasted with a curly brush stroke and builds up the surfaces of her works using various mediums. The combination of illusory and real depth creates an uncanny optical effect and her work is rooted in her desire to think of the body in context with natural elements and abstract composition. The exhibition is displayed at Feuer/Mesler, 319 Grand Street, 2nd Floor New York, NY 10002.
