Ace Gallery, Beverly Hills is hosting “Ethereal Material,” an exhibition of Ruth Pastine’s work that is on view till November 12, 2016.Southern California-based artist Pastine’s minimalist works address phenomena of color perception. She became interested in color theory through the work of chemist Michel Eugène Chevreul and his systematic study of color perception. Color relativity— the perception of influence between adjacent colors—has remained a dominating subject in Pastine’s paintings and works on paper. She “achieves a persuasive intensity in her paintings by approaching them with physical and intellectual fervor,” observes art writer Peter Frank.
