Nina Johnson Gallery is hosting an exhibition “First Light” that will be on view through November 26, 2016.“First Light” brings together the multi-disciplinary artistic display of one of the leading figure of Miami’s contemporary art, Bhakti Baxter, in his third solo show with the gallery. The exhibition serves as a tribute to the Florida landscape- featuring new series of water-based drawings, a fleet of surfboards, and sculptures made from detritus found in and around the Biscayne Bay. Taking on the theme of water as the common element between them, the works in the exhibition showcases a number of surfboards which are functional objects that trace their own lines in water. They are presented along a series of ink drawings made by letting the wet ink follow its natural course on surface. The sculptures are crafted from coconuts and rubber balls, driftwood and pilings, buoys from fisherman’s traps. These items are mostly have been reshaped by the sea, giving them new characters when assembled together. The exhibition is on view at Nina Johnson Gallery, 6315 North West 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33150, USA.
