The State Russian Museum presents “Ivan Aivazovsky. The 200th Anniversary of the Artist’s Birth.” The exhibition will be on view from December 22,2016 through March 20,2017.Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was a Russian romantic painter who is considered one of the greatest marine artists in the history. After graduating from Imperial Academy of Arts, Aivazovsky traveled to Europe and lived briefly in Italy in the early 1840s and later returned to Russia and was appointed as the main painter of the Russian Navy. His works are popular with the viewers and are also considered as real decoration of the museum collections in Russia and all over the world. The exhibition will include about 200 pieces and an exceptional part of it will present memorial materials, photographic ones, which could show the iconography of Aivazovsky. The main part of the exhibition will include world-renown masterpieces as well as less known works of Aivazovsky from the private collections.
