The image above is that of the Renault Kwid that Indian-born French artist Shombit Sen has painted and the cover will be lifted on November 9, 2016 when his solo show in Mumbai gets underway at the Institute of Contemporary Indian Art in Kala Ghoda. After Mumbai, the car will next be displayed at the Barbizon Artists Village in France (from December 10 - 27). Thereafter, it will travel to international auto and art shows, and will finally go to reside in the Renault Heritage Museum in France. The Renault Kwid, however, is just one aspect of Sen’s solo show that will feature seminal examples of the evolution of his repertoire. His pathbreaking techniques that have lead to the development of what is known as Gesturism, will be on display, as also a variety of installations classified as Désordre (disorder), which engage the viewers to participate in creating order in a painting. Renowned Italian curator Alberto Moioli, a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and Director of Enciclopedia d’Arte Italiana is coming to India as “Commisaire d’Exposition” to curate Sen’s paintings and write a critique for his two solo exhibitions in Mumbai and Barbizon.Shombit Sengupta’s exhibition will be on view at the Institute of Contemporary Indian Art, ICIA House, 22/26, K. Dubhash Marg, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, from November 9 through November 22, 11 am - 7 pm, Sunday closed.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
