Mi-Yu Gallery, Toronto, will host an exhibition of contemporary artist Tessar Lo, titled 'BOX', from October 14 through November 4, 2016.The exhibition features artworks on pieces of cardboard that were found hanging in Chinatown, and made their way to the studio. These pieces originally existed as containers, carrying and protecting the items inside. But upon the end of their purpose, they are discarded as flattened, cut and folded pieces of junk to be recycled, which embody a change of state, becoming a perfect canvas with nicks and bruises of time and travel. Stage by stage, they were used to make notes, then doodling, then drawing, then painting, then for cutting up, then reassembling, and then painting again. Painting with the cardboard has engaged the notions on the meaning of the moving things, and the lives attached to them. The resulting body of work is a token of a specific space and collaboration, an effort in listening and waiting as much as actively making. In its illusive humility, this material and method provide an opportunity to introspect on things apparently unimportant and imperative. The exhibition will be on view at Mi-Yu Gallery, 703 College Street, Toronto, ON. M6G1C2, Canada. For details, visit, www.mi-yu.xyzClick on the Slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
