MAMA Gallery in Los Angeles is hosting an exhibition titled 'Predictable Irrational' by Chinese abstract artist Li Zhenwei, that will be on view through October 23, 2016.This is Zhenwei's first exhibition outside China. He has always been interested in circumventing decreed forms of expression. When Zhenwei first started painting as a kid, while applying oil paint from a tube to the canvas, he realized that he was forming circular marks. He learnt from his early lessons that everything can be reduced to a circle - so he learned quickly how to draw a perfect circle, and then created an image of a tiger out of it. This made him curious about the mathematical constant Pi, whose decimal sequence never forms a repeating pattern. Through his exploration of the nature of Pi, he uncovered a process, meticulous application of paint in a formulaic manner. Pi is both transcendental and irrational, which is the concept behind Li’s work, where he finds order within chaos. The exhibition is on view at MAMA Gallery, 1242 Palmetto Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013, United States.
