“Fragility of the Self”- a solo exhibition of works by Bangkok-based artist Kamolpan Chotvichai will be presented at the Sundaram Tagore Gallery from September 23 till November 9, 2016 in the city of Singapore. The exhibition is being held in association with the fifth edition of Singapore International Photography Festival.  It presents works of Chotvichai who draws inspiration from her Buddhist roots. Chotvichai deals with issues like gender and identity through her photo-based self-portraits.Composed in multiple steps, Chotvichai skilfully distorts the image of her body with the help of an ordinary utility knife, creating strips of the canvas, which transforms two-dimensional photographs into a three-dimensional sculpture-like object. Influenced by the Buddhist school of thought, she removes her face from the photograph and shreds away her physical form, thus eliminating her identity and the attachment with her body. Although her work reflects elements of Buddhist philosophy, her monochrome imagery never ceases from being modern.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
