Art in the “DOUBLE ROOM 4” at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin explores the symbiotic relationship between the visions of two artists. The series of exhibitions is curated by Curatorial Studies students of two universities based in Frankfurt am Main - Goethe University and Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste. In the fourth edition of the series, two German artists, Carola Keitel and Hannes Seidl, question the visitor’s relationship to the exhibition space.Keitel’s “O30 (Object 30)” (installation, 2013/2015) is placed at the entrance to the room. The purple metal railing is an actual gateway into the exhibition, emphasizing the division between the outside and the inside. Corresponding with the purple of Keitel’s work are small speakers of the same color, placed on the wall. The room is filled with abrasive sounds of Seidl’s composition “Heavy Metal” (2015).The collaboration between the artists investigates the process of defamiliarization. The aggressive whiteness of the walls combined with harsh sounds of Seidl’s installation is contrasted with the insignificant looking speakers. The room is comparatively small and yet produces a deeply disconcerting effect on the visitor.“DOUBLE ROOM 4” is the last in the series of exhibitions. The previous editions presented the collaborations of such artists as George Rippon and Anina Troesch, Rosa Aiello and Cooper Jacoby as well as Filippa Pettersson and Rasmus Søndergaard Johannsen. “DOUBLE ROOM #4: SO THEY RATTLE” by Carola Keitel / Hannes Seidl runs at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin through January 4, 2016.
