London art dealers Ivor Braka and Thomas Dane have donated six major works by leading British contemporary artists to the Whitworth gallery in Manchester. The significant gift includes key pieces by the likes of Tracey Emin, Anya Gallaccio, Gilbert & George, Paul Graham, Michael Landy, and Rebecca Warren.Selected in discussion with the Whitworth, the gift responds to strengths in the Whitworth’s existing historic and contemporary collections.Highlights include Rebecca Warren’s 2006 Turner Prize nominated installation “Sylvesternacht” and a major sculpture by Anya Gallaccio.Braka and Dane commented that there have been few significant gains from philanthropists to our regional collections since the donations by late 19th-century industrialists such as those in Manchester. “The Whitworth, under Maria Balshaw's leadership, has sought to address this situation and we hope it will serve as an encouraging example of what can be achieved with focus and determination,” they said.“Charitable giving by individuals in this country needs to be encouraged and this also requires the effort of government.”The works included in the Ivor Braka and Thomas Dane gift are:—    Tracey Emin’s Meow, 2005, Appliquéd blanket—    Anya Gallaccio’s Red Door With Handle, 2003, gerbera, glass, wood and metal—    Gilbert and George’s Race Hate, 2011—    Michael Landy’s
