Taking full advantage of the pedestrian-friendly network of small streets in one of Paris’ most charming and artistic districts, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the annual Parcours des Mondes fair features approximately 86 galleries specializing in tribal arts from around the world.Broadening its horizons, the fair is this year including dealers with specialties in Asian art, in what Pierre Moos, the event’s director, calls a “”natural evolution”and “response to a growing interest on the part of collectors, and of dealers, who are organizing more and more exhibitions focused on Asia, Nepal, Tibet, and Indonesia.”London-based dealer Gregg Baker (specializing in screens and Japanese and Buddhist art) and his Parisian colleagues Jacques Barrère (arts of the Far East) and Christophe Hioco (Asian arts) will be among the event’s first-time participants.Other highlights from this year’s exhibitors include Belgian dealer Galerie Frank Van Craen showing a selection of Japanese tansu chests at Galerie Daniel Besseiche, Dutch dealer Michel Thieme offering tribal wood carvings from the South Pacific and Indonesia, and San Francisco gallery Shawn Ghassemi showing Indian miniature paintings and sculptures at Galerie Olivier Vanuxem.Click on the slideshow to see a sneak peek preview of what is in store.Parcours des Mondes runs from September 8 to 13 at various venues in Paris.
