Paris-based Galerie Dutko has announced that it will open its first London space at 18 Davies Street in Mayfair on October 8, 2015. Founded by Jean-Jacques Dutko, a leading authority on the Art Deco movement, Galerie Dutko is renowned for staging exhibitions that showcase the finest examples of Art Deco furniture alongside contemporary works.The London gallery will open with an exhibition showcasing a fine selection of treasures from the Art Deco period juxtaposed with stunning new works by the multitalented French artist and designer Eric Schmitt whose sculptural furniture with its curved, organic forms in bronze, alabaster, and marble draw inspiration from the French Art Deco tradition.Exhibition highlights from the Art Deco period include a period an oak, brass, and travertine low table with cubic feet by Paul Dupré-Lafon (1930), an ebony and bronze desk covered in python skin by Marcel Coard (c.1925-30), a wool rug in intersecting plains of colour by Ivan da Silva-Bruhns (c.1925), as well as a number of pieces by Eugène Printz.In addition to the new Mayfair location, Dutko Gallery has two spaces in Paris, the first an intimate space on Rue Bonaparte, Saint Germain des Prés, held for over twenty-five years, and a second on the Ile Saint Louis, established in 2008 for larger works. Both spaces are designed by renowned French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte.
