Long before the opening of Myanmar to the international world, self-taught Burmese artist Po Po was creating interesting conceptual works in isolation and extreme poverty. In August, Yavuz Fine Art in Singapore will present a survey of the artist's works dating back to 1982. The exhibition “Out of Myth, Onto_Logical,” as the title suggests, explores the states between myth and logic as a result of the sobering political reality Po Po is part of. It is this phase between reality and myth that has inspired much of his conceptual works.Po Po is one of the few artists in Myanmar who has been able to travel, showing his works in Gwangju, Fukuoka, Berlin, and Singapore. Multifaceted in his practice, he works on different mediums: oil painting, assemblage, monotype, installation, design, and architecture. The exhibition is curated by Nathalie Johnston, a leading researcher on performance art in Myanmar. “Out of Myth, Onto_Logical” will be on view from August 1-September 13, 2015.
