Rajinder Kumar Saini, a Delhi-based artist, has been painting in Chinese black ink since over 25 years. A retired civil servant, he has been working with water colors; painting in small formats and landscapes. Exhibiting his works of abstracts in Chinese black ink titled “AURA- The Mystery”, he says it’s a thought that is vibrating in his mind for a very long time.“Aura”, or the “halo” claimed as spiritual signature is what I believe the mystery behind universe and the life on earth. Perhaps, since the evolution of human life, whether by God or by nature, the meaning of aura had always been illusive, amazing and mysterious,” he says explaining the title of his exhibition.Saini delved into black ink painting when his mother, at the age of 92, entered the phase of deep meditation and in order to provide her pleasant atmosphere he started playing spiritual music. In turn, Saini spent more than 500 hours listening to “blissful music”.“Amidst the spiritual music and her thoughts, I started giving shapes as if it was not me but somebody else who was creating the images of such persons, who had reached their ecstasy, which is nothing but release of the cosmic energy from them termed as ‘Aura’,” he says. Saini has exhibited before, in India and abroad both as a solo artist and in group exhibitions. These include the Goethe Institute, Boppard, Germany; 2nd Triennial of Contemporary Art at Mauritius in 2005; at the 48th National Exhibition of Art 2005-06 organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, Mumbai; at Travancore Art Gallery, New Delhi in 2007 and more.-“AURA- The Mystery” is on view through June 9 at Art Gallery, IIC Annexe, Lodi Estate, New Delhi.Follow @ARTINFOIndia
