“The Late Paintings,” an exhibition featuring the works of second-generation American Abstract Expressionist painter Grace Hartigan (1922-2008) will run through March 4, 2017 at C. Grimaldis Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland.The selection of works on display explores the artist’s creations from the 1980s to 2000s. Hartigan was famous for her formative participation in the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1950s. Her paintings from the latter decades of her career combine figurative content with her signature style of using vibrant color, active gesture and painterly independence. The canvases trace her early abstract practice and lifelong integration of art history and popular culture which gave way to contemporary painting of today.The exhibition is on view at C.
