Corvi-Mora, London is hosting an exhibition of works by Tomoaki Suzuki through March 4, 2017. The exhibition showcases the deceivingly simple work: full figure, scaled-down portraits of friends and acquaintances of Tomoaki Suzuki. He has touched many different issues like talking about his interest in the changing face of youth culture and fashion and the different strategies people use to define their individuality through the clothes every year. He positions his work directly on floor that allows him to look at the relationship between the work, the viewer and their surroundings, encouraging the viewer to move around and change viewpoint when looking at the work. He has inserted new life into the traditional wood-carving techniques without slipping into kitsch or faux-naive vernacular - all the while putting together a personal history of youth culture in the East End and in Dalston, by creating a gallery of portraits of its inhabitants, like 3-D, contemporary August Sander.  The exhibition is on view at Corvi-Mora, 1A Kempsford Road (off Wincott Street), London SE11 4NUFor details, visit: www.nasjonalmuseet.noClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.  p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 17.0px Times} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 17.0px Times; min-height: 20.0px} span.s1 {font-kerning: none}
