Pavillon Populaire, Montpellier, is displaying photographs by six American scholars in an exhibition titled 'Notes on asphalt, a mobile and precarious America, 1950-1990'. The exhibition will run from February 8 to April 16, 2017.The exhibition will unveil works realized on the roads of the United States between 1950 and 1990 by six researchers -  Donald Appleyard (Professor Emeritus Urban Design), John Brinckerhoff Jackson (Adjunct Professor), Allan Jacobs (Professor Emeritus City & Regional Planning), Chester Liebs, Richard Longstreth ('77 Ph.D Architecture) and David Lowenthal (('50, M.A, Geography). Each of them has immortalized the landscapes of both the urban and the rural areas of the United States. In addition to J. B. Jackson, a tutelary and atypical figure whose work influences the art world, all enjoy an important scientific reputation in the fields of architecture, town planning and landscape. Nearly 200 photographs, which until now have only been shown in the framework of scientific publications or university courses, will be on display. These are documentary photographs, research works, which question how to appreciate the landscape. The exhibition is on view at Pavillon Populaire, 121 Allée de Jerusalem, 34000 Montpellier, France.
