Metro Pictures Gallery, New York is showcasing the latest abstracts of artist André Butzer, on view from February 2, 2017 through March 11, 2017.Butzer won international attention more than 15 years ago for his vividly colored paintings of cartoonish figures, inspired by German and American politics, art history and Disney animations, incorporating familiar characters and embellishing well-known styles of painting. He switched attention to abstract painting with an ongoing series that is largely dominated by single vertical and horizontal black bars emerging from gray backgrounds. The latest works are made following a methodology Butzer has named “Nasaheim,” or more simply, “N.” He describes “N” as an incalculable artistic unit of measurement, a mythological and irrational numeral denoting all colors and life and death. The exhibition is on view at Metro Pictures Gallery, 519 West 24th Street, New York City, New York 10011, United States. For details, visit: http://www.metropictures.com/artists/andre-butzer/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
