The exhibition of the works of artist Ciprian Mureșan at Nicodim Gallery in Los Angeles will end on January 21, 2017. This is your last opportunity to check out the works by this Romanian contemporary visual artist at the gallery. The exhibition is Romanian artist Mureșan’s third solo with the gallery, showcasing two sets of works, which share a common focus on the relation between art and power. The first part of the exhibition relates to the means through which religion has instrumentalized art and education in order to exercise its power over society and influence it.  For this part the artist has created 150 drawings depicting altar pieces from catalogues of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art, engraved on the brass panels of school benches; for the second part, he fabricates a plaster cast replica of a social realist work by Romanian sculptor Ion Irimescu depicting his torso to address the way totalitarian regimes have used art for propaganda purposes. In this part of the work, the successive process of casting and the insertion of the mold itself into the process as an original, the technical process of sculpture making becomes an absurd mechanism, resulting in the installation resembling sections of a tree trunk, where the casting process becomes more diluted and detached from the original. The exhibition is on view at Nicodim Gallery, 571 S Anderson Street #2, Los Angeles, CA 90033, USA.
