Kunsthalle Dusseldorf presents the first major solo show by British Japanese artist Simon Fujiwara (born 1982), which will run through March 5, 2017 in Dusseldorf.Elements of the construction and representation of identity, history, and stories are central to Fujiwara’s oeuvre, which comprises video and performance works as well as sculptures. The artist examines things that surround us every day, bringing the fictional into the seemingly factual to light with an astonishing incisiveness. He then adapts dominant pictorial conventions and aesthetics from marketing and advertising, pop culture, and social media, only to undermine them later from the inside or reveal the ambivalences inherent in them through subtle alterations. The exhibition is on view at Kunsthalle Dusseldorf, Grabbepl. 4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany.
