“An Observer,” an exhibition featuring the works of late British printmaker John Copley will run through January 5, 2017, at The Fine Art Society, London. The show explores Copley’s etchings which were rarely exhibited during his lifetime. The selection contains his figure studies, portraits, Mediterranean scenes, and landscapes. Also featured is his later works from 1939 through the 1940s, which were more existential, emotional, and introspective. The artist enjoyed etching as it gave him a lack of constraint and freedom of expression. He used it extensively as a medium even when etching was not considered to be fashionable in the art world.
