The ongoing exhibition titled “Africans in America” in conjunction with “Black Portraiture[s] III” conference at Goodman Gallery in Parkwood and the Johannesburg Art Gallery will soon come to an end on December 17, 2016. This is your last opportunity to check out the works at the exhibition.These events play a significant role in highlighting the gaps in art history, rewriting it from diverse perspectives, a central pursuit within the “In Context” series. “Africans in America” focuses on the exchanges and continuities between Africa and the United States.The conference is a platform for artists, activists and scholars from around the world to share ideas on subjects such as historical topics, current research on South African art, activism and related themes affecting the global African diaspora. The artists featured include Ghada Amer, Theaster Gates, Alfredo Jaar, Julie Mehretu, Wangechi Mutu, Odili Donald Odita and Kehinde Wiley, among others.
