Winsor Gallery, Vancouver, is hosting an exhibition titled 'Glasslands', featuring the latest works of artist Fiona Ackerman. It will run through January 7, 2017.Fiona Ackerman is originally from Montreal, who at present lives and works in Vancouver, BC. Ackerman’s work is diverse in style and is deeply rooted in the practice of painting. Through her painting, the artist reinvents the way she represents her world, her environment and the places of her imagination. This exhibition features paintings of both oil and acrylic on canvas. The works in the exhibition are inspired by philosopher Michel Foucault's concept in human geography termed ‘Heterotopia,’ refers to spaces of otherness, which are extraneous, that are physical and mental at the same time, such as the space of a phone call or the moment when you see yourself in the mirror. Similarly, the bold new paintings at the exhibition present the garden as a wholly imaginary and artificial construct, a re-writing of the wild. The exhibition is on view at Winsor Gallery, 258 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver, BC, Canada V5T 1A6.
