Alexander McKenzie’s paintings are on view at Martin Browne Contemporary Gallery, Sydney. The exhibition “Katsura” is current until December 18, 2016.The works on display exhibit dense atmospheres brought alive on canvas, each having its own narrative but displaying only a single, definitive scene. McKenzie uses identical landscapes and elements; trees, ponds, islands, and light; to create diverse works. It’s always either dusk or dawn, meant to communicate a state of transition and anticipation. Trees take center stage and are used as prime characters in these narratives.
