Art for Concern presents a two-day exhibition of “Traditional and Folk Art” at Balassi Institute, Hungarian Information & Cultural Centre, New Delhi, from December 2-3, 2016.The exhibition brings together traditional art from across India, giving a window of exposure to the dying forms that represent the fascinating folklore of each region. Skilled indigenous artists around the country deal with the fear of their work, and consequently their livelihoods, dying out. The exhibition is an attempt to provide a platform to folk artists and ensure their legacy endures. The spotlight is on four traditional and folk artists -- Manisha Jha, Rajendra Shyam, Kailash Chand Kumawat and Jijulal. Their work will share space with a vibrant mix of folk art like Kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh, Kalighat paintings from the east, Mata ni Pachedis from Gujarat, Gond works from Madhya Pradesh, striking Chola bronzes from Tamil Nadu, Phads and Pichwais. In their myriad forms, these traditional arts serve as essential documentation of India’s rich and hoary cultural heritage. The exhibition is on view at Balassi Institute, Hungarian Information & Cultural Centre, 1A Janpath, New Delhi - 110011, India.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
