Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York is hosting an exhibition “The Serpent’s Energy gave Birth to Humanity” by Ernesto Neto that will be on view through December 16, 2016.The exhibition brings the new works by acclaimed Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto in New York for the first time since 2012. In this exhibition Neto presents a new body of finger-crocheted immersive sculptures, installations and wall-works, inviting the viewers into an all-encompassing sensory experience where they can explore, touch, smell, and even wear the objects at display. The exhibition is built on the artist’s continued use of crochet as the formal and symbolic element, in which the knitting transforms into small-scale artisanal craft to the building-blocks of large-scaled sculptural installations and intricate two-dimensional artworks. These gigantic womb-like structures invite interactivity, which blurs the threshold between the viewer and the artworks, physicalizing the artist’s concept of living sculpture- a practice in which the process and the outcome holds the same value. The exhibition is on view at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, 521 West 21st Street #1, New York, NY 10011, USA.
