Australian Galleries, Melbourne, is exhibiting artworks by artist Richard Goodwin, on display till November 20, 2016.The exhibition, titled 'The Ulysses Suite', is metaphorically, the artist feasting on the carcass of James Joyce’s epic novel “Ulysses”. The Ulysses Suite is what Goodwin did while reading and re-reading Ulysses and Homer’s Iliad; the former interrogating the latter is considered by the artist as the ultimate formula. Goodwin credits Marcel Duchamp for giving artists, what he calls, a “readymade” framework on which his artistic practice has drawn upon for years. The idea, in these exhibits, is to radically transform the meaning of objects with little or no physical intervention. The journey he undertook while reading the two novels is what he describes as “into the Labyrinth, which I read as “Minimalism”, and on into a vortex, with my readymade ‘exoskeleton machine’”.The exhibition is at Australian Galleries, 35 Derby Street Collingwood VIC 3066.
