Matthew Marks Gallery in New York is hosting an exhibition “Peter Cain” that will be on view through October 22, 2016.The exhibition is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of Peter Cain’s works, featuring paintings, drawings and collages, created between 1980s and 1997. The artist became known for his paintings of automobiles. The exhibition presents full scope of these paintings, including classic muscle cars to late-model sedans. Many of these automobile collages are on view for the first time, along with preparatory sketches, source photos, and notebooks from the artist’s archive. The exhibition also includes drawings and paintings featuring his boyfriend Sean, depicting the subjects reclining neck and shoulders on a beach. The exhibition celebrates the publication of ‘Peter Cain”, the first complete monograph of his works, featuring essays by Beau Rutland, Richard Meyer and Collier Schorr, illustrated with over eighty full-color plates of the paintings, drawings, photographs and collages, as well as photos of artist’s studios, and notes and ephemera from his archive.The exhibition is on view at two venues of Matthew Marks Gallery, 522 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011, United States; and 526 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011, United States.
