Cameron Contemporary Art in Brighton & Hove, UK, will be hosting an exhibition “Graham Dean” that will be on view from October 8 through November 7, 2016.This is Graham Dean’s first solo exhibition in Brighton, his home. One of the most powerful figurative painters in Britain, Dean is renowned for his ideas about watercolor, very different from its 18th century roots in landscape painting to create monumental, life-size images of human body. Implementing a technique that he calls ‘reverse archaeology’, the artist transforms the conventional use of watercolor painting, by contrasting layers of paint laid separately onto porous handmade Indian paper. This creates a density and color that is visceral in effect, merging the figure with the organic process of paint spreading through paper. Sections from different versions of same composition are torn away and reassembled to create a form of collage, which supports the emotive and dramatic qualities of the work. The exhibition will be on view at Cameron Contemporary Art, 1 Victoria Grove, 2nd Avenue, Brighton and Hove BN3 2LJ, United Kingdom.
