Lora Schlesinger Gallery in Santa Monica, California, is hosting an exhibition “Ginga (“The Silver River”/”Galaxy”) and Mandala” featuring the works of Brooklyn-based post-minimalist artist Miyo Ando that will be on view through October 15, 2016.The exhibition explores the human connection with nature and the interconnectivity of all things. It includes two bodies of work that were inspired by the Japanese word for galaxy that translates to ‘The Silver River in the Sky’ and Ando’s “Bodhi Leaf Mandalas.” The exhibition examines the themes of perception and one’s relationship with nature and time. In Buddhism, ‘mandala’ represents the universe. The mandalas in the exhibition are created using Bodhi skeleton leaves that are dyed, arranged and sewn together to compose elegant and meditative works. The exhibition also features a series of luminous paintings on metal by the artist. She has combined traditional techniques with modern industrial technology to transform metal panels into ethereal abstract paintings full of color. The reflective metal produces experimental and mutable surfaces that shift with light. For the artist, who is a Buddhist, the paradoxical pairing with spiritual subject matter is intentional. The exhibition is on view at Lora Schlesinger Gallery, 2525 Michigan Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90404, United States of America. For details, view http://www.loraschlesinger.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition
