Ben Brown Fine Arts, London will present “Les Lalanne” from November 23, 2016 through January 26, 2017.The exhibition celebrates the wonderful and whimsical works by French artists Claude Lalanne and the late Francois-Xavier Lalanne. Claude and Francois-Xavier met in Paris in 1952 and embarked on a journey together where they worked and explored the natural world through the creation of sculptures. They both had their unique style — Francois-Xavier’s witty and bold animal sculptures also commonly present themselves as functional storage spaces, while Claude’s works are mostly delicate pieces, inspired by flora and fauna; together they created a world of fantasy beyond categorization. The remarkable body of work known as "Les Lalanne," spanning over 50 years, continues to flourish today, even after the demise of Francois-Xavier in 2008. For this exhibition, Claude Lalanne has produced a number of striking new sculptures including her famous ‘'Choupatte’’ depicting an oversized cabbage with chicken legs.Other new works include a small "Table Crocodile," a pair of "Fauteuils Crocodiles" and a pair of "Fauteulis Entrelacs." In dialogue with these works are three iconic "Moutons" (sheep) by Francois-Xavier, a very popular symbol of his works.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
