“Fly Away” the new exhibition of Rashid Johnson will be on view at Hauser & Wirth, New York, from September 8 through October 22, 2016. This exhibition features new paintings and sculptures by the artist and a monumental installation that goes hand in hand with the gallery’s architecture. The exhibition title has been taken from the from the 1929 famous song ‘I’ll Fly Away,’ and explores the themes of history, yearning, and escape.The exhibition presents a new series titled “Falling Men,” in which Johnson uses his signature materials to create works of art. It also features “Escape Collages,” Johnson’s third new series of large-scale paintings. The notions of identity and escape are common themes in his work. New sculptures that complement the “Escape Collages” and “Falling Men” works are also on view.
