Waddington Custot, London, presents “Rhythm and Reflections,” an exhibition of works by French artist Fabienne Verdier, from November 25 through February 4. “Rhythm and Reflections” will feature large-scale abstract paintings by Verdier, along with recent works from her "Walking Painting" series. Verdier, 54, is known for combining Eastern artistic education with traditional Western art, creating gestural composition using painting tools of her own invention — large-scale, custom-made brushes, funnels suspended from the ceiling of her studio. This vertical painting technique makes her art a product of the body moving freely, unfazed by the weight of the brush. The exhibition highlights the evolution in Verdier’s creative practice post her stint at Juliard School in New York, which has generated a distinct awareness in her towards vibration and rhythm. In “Rhythm and Reflections”, Verdier balances her exploration of gesture in consideration with the pictoral surface, creating a sense of depth and space. The new works are less about her signature physical act of painting and more about the consideration of rhythmic layering, nomadism and sudden events of mark making.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
