Hong Kong-based artists Adrian Wong and Shane Aspegren bring collaborative multimedia works to Rossi & Rossi for the gallery’s upcoming exhibition “Cromniomancy,” which will run from August 6 through September 10.The new, captivating multimedia works explore the idea of cromniomancy — the practice of divination using onions. Incorporating the concept of cymatics, or the study of wave phenomena, the artists explore themes pertaining to frequency and divination through various media like prints, rugs, video, and sound. The exhibition is an expansion of the duo’s previous body of work launched earlier this year, entitled “Third Eye Kaleidoscope.” The project traced the development of Eastern spiritual beliefs into the modern New Age Movement in Hong Kong. The New Age Movement gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s as the West adopted Eastern philosophies, replacing Judeo-Christian beliefs. The project unfolded over a period of three days, with three events taking place in three different locations in Hong Kong. One of these was an immersive installation of sound and light, “speculating the ideas of cosmic frequencies, harmony, and rituals.”Adrian Wong is an installation artist and sculptor as well as the co-founder and director of Embassy Projects, an arts consultancy and independent production studio. He was the recipient of the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2014. Musician and multimedia artist Shane Aspegren co-formed the acclaimed analogue-electronic/brut-percussion duo “The Berg Sans Nipple,” who have made hundreds of appearances at European festivals. Aspegren's current music projects include “Blood Wine or Honey,” “Pando’s People,” “Ca va Chéri,” and a free-improvisation duo with dj sniff.“Cromniomancy” runs from August 6 through September 10 at Rossi & Rossi in Hong Kong.
