The exhibition “Lucinda Childs - Sol LeWitt” will run from September 24, 2016 through January 7, 2017 at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Pantin. The exhibition traces the parallel development of both artists during the 1970s. On display for the first time will be the choreographer’s archive, exploring the evolution of her choreographic language through more than 100 pieces of her graphic material. These are in conjunction with “Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawing #357,” which develops the arc motif on the walls of the gallery. The arc alongside the straight lines and diagonals represents Childs’ minimalist choreography. The exhibition contains several documents that highlight the correspondence between Sol LeWitt and Lucinda Childs — his drawn and stamped diagrams in response to her diagrams of the dances. The highlight of the exhibition will be the recreation of the arc motif by LeWitt in November 1981 by an artist from the Sol LeWitt Foundation, who will work for a period of three weeks on a white chalk realization of the drawing on a black-painted wall nearly 25 meters long.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
