"Juan Davila: imagen residual/After Image" is an art exhibition at Centro Cultural Matucana 100 that runs through October 16. Curated by Paco Barragan, this is Chile's first retrospective of the Australian-Chilean artist Juan Davila.Commemorating the 15th anniversary of the cultural center, the exhibition features approximately 50 art pieces from Davila’s collections from 2001 to 2016.In 1974, just a few months after the Pinochet coup, Davila moved to Melbourne. Between the two countries, the artist created a body of work that emphasized critical issues such as "neo-colonial dominance, and the influence of the Catholic Church and its relationship with the economic and political elites."The exhibition is complemented by a 42-minute video compilation of Juan Dávila's work from the 1970s to the present, along with a documentary of the artist by Dutch filmmaker Pauline Senn.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
