“Banksy – King of Urban Art” at Galerie Kronsbein in Munich is the first comprehensive exhibition in Germany of Banksy’s works. The exhibition of 45 works is primarily drawn from the collection of Dirk Kronsbein, founder of Galerie Kronsbein, who started collecting the artist’s work just a year ago.On show at Galerie Kronsbein is a selection of originals and editions featuring some of Banksy’s most signature motifs, such as the Gangster Rat, Paparazzi Rat, and Copper.Other iconic works include “Choose Your Weapon” with its Keith Haring dog, the subversive “Toxic Mary,” and the somewhat self-explanatory “Monkey Queen.”Highlights of the exhibition are the unique “Toxic Mary, (double) (2003)” and the original of “Love Is In The Air,” which was exhibited at Banksy’s breakthrough “Turf War” exhibition in London in 2003Galerie Kronsbein was established in 2013 by German entrepreneur Dirk G. Kronsbein, the founder of the global company ultrafilter international AG.His parting from ultrafilter enabled him to establish Galerie Kronsbein and showcase his private passion as an art patron and collector within a professional framework.“I started with the odd Banksy piece some years ago,” Mr Kronsbein says. “I really didn’t know what I was collecting.”At the beginning of last year, Mr Kronsbein began taking a closer look at what Banksy was doing after becoming more aware of him through the media and visits to other galleries in NY, London, and LA.“His political and social messages are always to the point and are brilliantly and totally reflected in his artwork,” he says.“The simplicity of his pictures is easy to understand and easy for everyone to enjoy. I am very proud to be able to exhibit Banksy’s work.”“Banksy – King of Urban Art” is at Galerie Kronsbein in Munich until September 10. More info here.
