Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has announced its spring and summer exhibitions programs for 2016, including two world-premiere international contemporary exhibitions.The NGV’s summer contemporary blockbuster for 2016 is a major solo exhibition of renowned British artist David Hockney, opening 11 November 2016.Curated by the NGV in collaboration with David Hockney and his studio, the exhibition will feature more than 700 works from the past decade of the artist’s career.The other international blockbuster is a world-first exhibition developed in collaboration with the Amsterdam-based fashion duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, better known as Viktor&Rolf.“Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists” will showcase more than 35 of their most iconic works in an immersive environment, exploring Viktor&Rolf’s notion of wearable art.Other highlights of the Spring/Summer 2016 program include a John Olsen survey, a retrospective of the work of Kaiadilt artist Sally Gabori, and the exhibition “Italian Jewels: Bulgari Style.”In 2016, the NGV will also present “Bamboo: Tradition in contemporary form,” an installation by Taiwanese-American artist Lee Mingwei, in addition to many other exhibitions and“Our Spring/Summer 2016 program is testament to our desire to create vibrant and rich spaces where the community can engage with art in a contemporary context,” said NGV Director Tony Ellwood.“We recognise that the NGV plays a critical role in providing a place where people can share ideas, create debate and feel connected to art and each other.”
